There is no question that traditional Judaism is male-centered.
But in recent decades there has been an amazing amount of work done
in female-oriented approaches to Jewish ritual and Jewish history.
Frankel offers interpretations of all of the parashot (weekly portions)
of the Torah written in the voice of various women from Jewish history,
from the matriarchs to modern women.
Hauptman, a talmudist at the Jewish Theological Seminary, argues even
though Jewish law did not favor women, the rabbis of the talmud worked
to make the law work better for women.
