Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How did your congregation begin?
A: Martin Shapiro placed an ad in the local newspaper to see if anyone
was interested in starting a Jewish congregation in Ashland. He was
overwhelmed when about 50 people showed up!
Q: How large is our membership?
A: Presently, we have approximately 50 families. There are many
other families who attend our High Holiday services annually and
support us through their donations.
Q: How do you become a member?
A: Fill in the membership form at www.shaareishalom-ashland.org and send a check to
our treasurer.
Q: Are you planning on having your own building?
A: Yes. When you pay your dues, you also make a payment toward our
building fund. At the moment, we cannot afford a temple of our
own. We continue to discuss ways to raise money, other rental options,
and the hope that someone may donate a building to a worthy cause!!
