Services at Sha'arei Shalom We hold Friday night services once a month, usually on the first Friday of the month and at most holidays. There are many ways to participate actively in the service, from lighting the Shabbat candles and saying Kiddush to giving a short talk about the week's Torah portion or an upcoming holiday. But while we encourage active participation, it is never required. We use the Gates of Prayer for Shabbat and Weekdays siddur from the CCAR. This siddur uses gender-neutral language and includes transliterations for those who do not yet read Hebrew. Men and women participate equally in the service. Though the actual content of a service may vary somewhat from month to month, services usually include many familiar songs sung in Hebrew and many passages in English.
